GLOBAL PRESS JUNKET HELD TO UNLOCK THE SECRETS
ON THE SET OF "THE HOUSE OF THE DEAD"
Thursday, June 6, 2002
(VANCOUVER, CANADA) Last week, Uwe Boll, the director and producer of "THE
HOUSE OF THE DEAD" hosted a press junket which attracted journalists
from
across the globe to the film set where production continues on the
horror/supernatural/action thriller based on the hit video game series from
SEGA®.
For two days, journalists from leading newspapers, print magazines and
broadcast media around the world visited the set where they had first-hand
access to the film's cast and crew, including director/producer Uwe Boll
("Blackwoods", "Homeroom: The Heart of America"), who
explained the
mysteries of the House of the Dead in front of the enormous ancient and
terrifying titular building which had been constructed for the film in the
forest's of Northern Vancouver along with a massive graveyard and relic cave,
built for the week's action in which desperate humans confront zombie hordes.
Also joining the press on set were the president of Sega America, Peter
Moore, and the game's creator Rikiya Nakagawa, who both portrayed zombies
in
the film after hours of painstaking zombie make-up application. Rikiya will
be incorporating footage from the film into the next "House of the Dead"
game
release, "House of the Dead III".
The film, which tells the story of a band of college students
that arrive on
a mysterious island for a rave and must confront horrifying zombies and other
terrifying creatures intent on feasting on the flesh of the living, are an
ensemble of exciting young talent including JONATHAN CHERRY, star of New
Line's "Final Destination II" and TYRON LEITSO, the lead in Hallmark's
new
epic miniseries, "Dinotopia". Joining them are such veteran Hollywood
talents
as CLINT HOWARD ("Apollo 13", "How The Grinch Stole Christmas"),
ELLIE
CORNELL ("Halloween IV" and "Halloween V") and, in a
performance that is
sure to raise eyebrows, JÜRGEN PROCHNOW ("Das Boot") as a
crusty sea captain
who takes the kids to the island and gets more than he bargained for when
he
has to fend off the attack of deadly zombies. Prochnow, of course, has earned
international acclaim in such films as "Judge Dredd", "Dune"
and "Air Force
One".
In addition to Boll KG, the film is produced by Shawn Williamson
("Try 17",
"Sanctimony") via his Brightlight Pictures banner and executive
produced by
Mindfire Entertainment, the creative team behind the award winning "Free
Enterprise" and "The Specials" and Daniel Kletzky, a producer
on "Resident
Evil" and "Final Fantasy". "THE HOUSE OF THE DEAD"
promises to be an
exciting horror thriller unlike any seen on screen before.
"It is clear that this is a film which has attracted the interest of
the
entire world", says director/producer Uwe Boll. "Even the jaded
members of
the press were impressed with what we have accomplished in terms of building
the House of the Dead and the incredible cast and crew we have put together
for this production. I was gratified to see the interest and turn-out among
the entertainment and video game journalists who visited with us during production
and made it through two days of punishing rain and night shooting."
Upcoming promotional functions will include a panel at the
annual San Diego
Comic Con and Fangoria Weekend of Horrors convention in August featuring
members of the production team.
SEGA created the successful "The House of the Dead" video game
franchise,
including two popular arcade games and two best-selling console titles. This
fall SEGA will release the highly anticipated next installment in the series,
"The House of the Dead III", for the Xbox video game system from
Microsoft®. The film will also boast an unprecedented level of cooperation
between Sega Corporation and the production in terms of exploiting potential
synergies between the video game and the movie release.
