He also produced "Heist," a dark film noir in the tradition of "Reservoir Dogs" starring Robert Pastorelli (Cracker, Eraser), Daniel Benzali (Murder One), Glenn Plummer (Speed, Showgirls) and James Russo (Dangerous Game). Other projects included the science fiction thriller, "Phoenix" which debuted as a Planetary Premiere on TV's Sci-Fi Channel. In the 70's and 80's, Bates' many years in the music industry as a producer and engineer involved working with such top artists as Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson, Stevie Nicks, Fear, The Replacements and Oingo Boingo. In addition, he worked on the scores to such films as "Midnight Express," "Top Gun," "Cobra" and "Creator." Mr. Bates is also one of the co-creators of the revolutionary sound process,
